A servo drive is a special electronic amplifier used to power electric servomechanisms. A servo drive monitors the feedback signal from the servomechanism and continually adjusts for deviation from expected behavior.
Servo Drives are required for a safe and reliable operation of Alternating Current (AC) Servo Motors. Servo Drives can accurately adjust the RPM of AC Servo Motors according to their keypad panel settings or commands received from nearby PLC units.
Servos are controlled by sending an electrical pulse of variable width, or pulse width modulation (PWM), through the control wire. There is a minimum pulse, a maximum pulse, and a repetition rate. A servo motor can usually only turn 90° in either direction for a total of 180° movement.
